Abstract

446,216. Plug-and-socket couplings. ARNOLD, C. L., and M. K. ELECTRIC, Ltd., Wakefield Street, Edmonton, London. Feb. 23, 1935, No. 5844. [Class 38 (i)] A plug is locked in position by a pivoted lever which is spring- pressed against the earthing pin of the plug and is released by depression of an extension of the lever projecting outside the cover. The end of the lever engaging the pin may comprise a knifeedge, a point or a serrated cam surface. As shown in the Figure, the lever 6 is spring-pressed to engage the earthing-pin 11 of the plug 10. When the plug is inserted, the lever 6 swings clockwise but when the withdrawal of the pin is attempted the edge 6a of the lever bites into and holds the pin. The clutch is released, to allow the plug to be withdrawn, by depression of the extension 6b of the lever.
