Abstract

535,942. Two-part couplings. TUCKER & CO., Ltd., J. H., and FUKE, F. C. Oct. 24, 1939, No. 28540. [Class 38 (i) In order to prevent accidental contact with the pins of a plug coupling when partially inserted into the live sockets, the socket member 12 is provided with a telescopic bush 13 urged upwardly by a spring 14, Fig. 3, and having holes 13a, 13b to receive the pins 17 so that these are completely enclosed before reaching the sockets 12a, 12b. The bush 13 may be locked in its protruded position. In this case a spring 24 acts on the bush through a bent lever 22 that is prevented from rocking by a catch 21. This is withdrawn by the earthing pin on .the plug member engaging an oblique surface 21a on the catch. If a rotary shutter is employed to cover the sockets it is arranged below the bush 13 and is controlled by a helical spring acting torsionally on the shutter and in compression between the shutter and the bush.
