Abstract

516,006. Two-part couplings. TUCKER, J. B. June 17, 1938, Nos. 18003 and 21192. [Class 38 (i)] A socket to receive both a three-pin 5-ampere plug and a 15-ampere plug comprises s resilient or two-dimensiona: socket adapted to receive the earthing pin of either plug and pairs of sockets suited tc each of the two plugs. The resilient socket may consist of oblique members a, Fig. 1 mounted on spring-controlled slides a<1> so that either size o earthing pin can be inserted The other sockets consist o dual sockets c, d of a size and location to receive the live pins of either the 5-amp, or 15-amp plugs. Alternatively the earthing socket may consist of a tube g, Fig. 8, with a portion g<1> mounted on spring arms g<2>. As the socket is fused only for 15 amp., the 5-amp. plug must contain its own fuse and in order to prevent a standard unfused plug being inserted in the socket, the plug entry aperture may have an obstruction such as a flat side to co-operate with a reduction in cross-section of the corresponding pin of the specially fused plug.
