Abstract

481,215. Two-part couplings. BAKER, H. N., and PARSONS, C. W. Nov. 27, 1936, No. 32494. [Class 38 (i)] A plug-and-socket connection is provided with a shutter a, adapted to cover the live sockets, which is pivoted at b to an insulated base c, and is moved to the open position upon the insertion of the earthing plug into its socket f. A lever j is pivoted at one end near the earth socket, and has a projection o extending through an opening p into the socket. The other end has a projection n extending into a slot m radially arranged in a segmental flange l on the sleeve k of the pivot. Upon insertion of the earthing plug, the projection o and lever j are moved clockwise sufficiently to move the shutter a anticlockwise to the open position. In a modified construction, the projection o may be replaced by a ball located in a side opening in the socket and held by a concave recess in the lever. Upon withdrawal of the plugs, the shutter is returned by a spring i. The connection may be combined with a switch mounted on the base c. Specification 467,936 is referred to.
