Abstract

551,898. Two-part couplings combined with switches. TELEPHONE MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., and TAYLOR, G. E. Oct. 17, 1941, No. 13415. Addition to 525,901. [Class 38 (i)] A wall socket having protective shutters operated as claimed in the parent Specification is combined with a switch that also controls the shutters in such a way as to prevent insertion of the plug when the switch is closed, and to cover the sockets if the plug is withdrawn while the switch is closed. The auxiliary shutter 13 of the parent Specification has an arm 23 that is coupled through a spring 24 to a lever 25 pivoted at 26 and moved when the switch 29 is operated. If the plug is not inserted closure of the switch causes the lever to move the shutter 13 into the closed position. When the switch is closed while the plug is in the socket the earth-pin restrains the shutter 13 and the spring 24 is placed under tension. If the plug is now withdrawn the spring closes the shutter 13.
