Abstract
632,138. Two-part coupiings combined with switches. COOK, C. R. Jan. 29, 1948, No. 2724. [Class 38 (i)] In a plug-and-socket switch of the type wherein the plug, when inserted, is rotatable so as to cause one or more pins to engage or disengage one or more socket contacts, the socket contacts 15, 16 comprise rigid tubes with side openings 28 for the pins 29 which are resilient and preferably of the type set forth in Specification 403,448, the edges of the openings 28 being chamfered at 33 to guide and compress the pins. The sockets together with a tubular earth socket 17 about which the plug rotates are housed in recesses 12, 13 14 in the socket base 11. A spring-loaded shutter may be provided so that if the plug is removed in the " on " position, the shutter will move to the shielding position. Means to engage the plug on movement to the " on " position to prevent its withdrawal may comprise a lug on the plug engaging a slot in the socket cover. According to the Provisional Specification the plug may be adapted to move rectilinearly.
