Abstract

954,728. Electrical sockets. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIE'S Ltd. March 15, 1963 [June 28, 1962], No. 24894/62. Heading H2E. A shuttered socket outlet comprises two separate overlapping shutter members A and B (Fig. 1), each having spring closing means 9 and each shielding both of two socket contacts 11 and 12. The shutter members A and B are U-shaped (Fig. 3, not shown), each having a pair of limbs 5a, 7a and 5b, 7b interleaved so that each socket is covered by two limbs, one from each shutter member. The limbs which are uppermost (5a and 5b) present a bevelled surface to the inserted pin contacts (Fig. 2, not shown), so that the pins effect lateral movement of the associated shutter members which are arranged to move in opposite parallel directions in rectilinear slots. The socket may have a third contact member connected to earth and an interlock device which locks both the shutters associated with the other two contacts until the earth pin has been inserted.
