[Class 38 (i)] A shutter a to cover the live sockets c of a coupling is pivoted between the sockets c and operated by a sliding member i directly connected to the shutter and associated with the earthing socket e. The earthing pin engages a cam surface h on the end of the slide i and moves it against a tension or compression spring f acting on the slide or a coiled spring acting on the shutter. Connection between the slide and shutter is made by a finger k located in a hole l or by a rack on the end of the slide engaging a pinion formed on the shutter.
