Abstract

520,015. Two-part couplings. HASSID, AUSTIN, & CO., Ltd., and BRUCE, F. S., March 20, 1939, No. 8844. [Class 38 (i)] A shutter to cover the live sockets 6, 7 of a plug-and-socket coupling comprises an arcuate insulating strip 8 with enlargements 8a, 8b at its ends to cover the sockets, and an enlargement 9 at the centre to which is secured a metal plate 10, having an arm 12 with an inclined portion 18 entering the earth-socket 5. A-pivot pin 13 situated within the triangle formed by the sockets 5, 6, 7, passes through the enlargement 9 and plate 10 which turn on the pin under the influence of a spring 17 that holds the shutter in the closed position until the earth-pin displaces the arm 12.
