Abstract

391,900. Plug couplings combined with switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and MANCHESTER, W., c/o General Electric Co., Ltd., Wembley, Middlesex. Dec. 11, 1931, No. 34380. [Class 38 (i).] An electric plug-and-socket connector is provided with a tumbler switch so arranged that the plug cannot be removed when the switch is closed and the switch cannot be closed when the plug is withdrawn. The switch dolly 4 is connected by a link 5 to a pivoted spring-controlled plate 6 with a detent 6a. When the plug is out, the detent 6a is displaced sidewise into a slot in the socket 7 and, engaging the socket wall, prevents movement of the switch, but insertion of the plug displaces the plate and allows movement of the switch. When the switch is closed, the detent 6a moves into a horizontal slot in the plug, preventing its withdrawal.
