Abstract
898,807. Two-part couplings. BURNDY CORPORATION. June 10, 1960 [June 16, 1959], No. 20564/60. Class 38 (1). A pin or, as shown, a socket contact 24 is automatically locked in an aperture 54 in a panel 18, when inserted from the end 56 of the aperture, by spring catches 28 which project through apertures 12 in a sleeve 10 surrounding the socket and engage a shoulder 38 in the aperture when a flange 16 on the sleeve 10 abuts an oppositely facing shoulder 20. To release the socket it is pushed further into the aperture so that the sleeve 10 overrides projections 44 on the socket, which normally prevent accidental release, and cam surfaces 37 on the apertures 12 acting on inclined surfaces 36 of the catches 28 withdraw the latter from engagement with shoulder 38. At the same time latches 29 which extend beyond catches 28 bend upwards and engage apertures 14 in sleeve 10 to hold the catches in their retracted position whilst the contact is slid out of the end 56 of aperture 54. Latches 29 are released before re-insertion of the socket. Said latches and catches 28 are formed on the ends of one pair of four spring fingers slit from the socket wall, the other pair 30 forming wiping contacts.
