Abstract
850,069. Two-part couplings. HUBBELL Inc., H. Dec. 15, 1958, No. 40363/58. Class 38(1) In a plug and socket connector comprising telescoping metal casings 28, 29 enclosing insulating bodies 3 and 14a, 14b respectively, the body 3 carries arcuate, hook-shaped plug contacts 7 adapted, on insertion of the plug, to pass through arcuate slots 13 in member 14a and to engage circularly-arranged spring contacts 17 carried by member 14b. As the contacts 7 are inserted they also engage and compress springs 24 which, on relative rotation of the plug and socket members and subsequent release of the plug, urge the hooked-ends 12 of contacts 7 into interlocking relation with recesses 27 on the underside of member 14a. Fig. 10 shows another construction wherein radial plug contacts 31 are moulded in a projection 33 of a plug insulating member 32 and are adapted to pass through radial slots 42, Fig. 15, in a socket insulating member 57 into engagement with spring contacts 44. In this case, the end of the projection 33 depresses a spring-loaded insulating shutter 54 which is slidable on a pin 50, and provides the spring pressure for retaining the hooked ends 55 of the contacts 31 in interlocking engagement with recesses 56 after rotation of the plug. The pin 50 may be used as an earthing connection and as a projection for ensuring correct coupling.
