Abstract
727,740. Two-part couplings. McCARTHY, P. M. May 6, 1953 [May 6, 1952], No. 11433/52. Class 38 (1). A shuttered socket 1 comprises three pinreceiving contacts 4, 5, 6, and three holes housing spring plungers 13, 14, 15, respectively, the holes being connected by a shallow recess 16 and a deeper one 17 for the longer earth pin. A cup-shaped, revoluble shutter 2 is biased by a spring so that apertures 18, 19, 20 therein normally register with plungers 13, 14, 15 which are urged by their springs into the apertures to lock the shutter. When the plug pins enter the apertures 18 ... 20, they depress the spring plungers out of engagement with the shutter and the plug and shutter are then rotated until the pins can be inserted into contacts 4, 5 and 6.
