Abstract
744,915. Two-part couplings. WALSALL CONDUITS, Ltd. March 15, 1954 [March 24, 1953], No. 7993/53. Class 38 (1). A shutter 27 for a socket connecter is locked in its operative position by lugs 22 on a plate 17 engaging slots 29 in the shutter. The plate rests on the open side of a U-shaped earth socket 12 and is held in position by a compression spring 34 operative between the plate and a member 30 pivotable at one end in the connecter body and loosely engaging the shutter at its other end 32. The plate 17 has lugs 24 engaging inclined slots 23 in the socket 12 and a bent-over lug 18 projecting across the socket. On insertion of a plug, the earth pin 25 engages lug 18 and displaces plate 17 axially and outwardly of the socket 12 thus unlocking the shutter. On engagement of the shutter by the " live " pins 33, member 30 is caused to tilt downwards and move the shutter to its inoperative position. Spring 34 returns the parts to their operative positions on removal of the plug.
