Abstract
532,701. Two-part couplings. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE & ELECTRIC CO.. Ltd., GRAVES, A. E., and HARRISON, W. A. July 26, 1939, No. 21778. [Class 38 (i)] A plug or socket member has the contacts mounted so as to be removable from the body without disconnecting the leads, each contact having a non-circular or eccentric portion that enables it to be locked by a suitable movement to engage it with a retaining member forming part of the body. The body of each member of the coupling consists of insulating blocks 11, 12, 23, 24 having aligned apertures for the contacts 10, 22. The parts 11, 23 constitute the retaining members and have slots through which the contact 10, 22 and the eccentric portion 25 thereof, see Fig. 5, can pass in one position, but when the contact is turned through a right angle the portion 25 overlaps the side of the slot and enters a recess 28 in which it is retained when the parts 11, 12 or 23, 24 are brought together. The parts 11, 12 are fixed together and to a screw shell 13 by bolts 17, and the parts 23, 24 are rotatably held in a shell 18 by spacers 19, 20 and a spring ring 21. The socket contacts 22 are slit and surrounded by a spring 26 which may have lips bent outwardly to engage with the parts 23, 24.
