Abstract

Plug couplings.-A plug and socket coupling for connecting the aerial and earth wires to a receiving- set is so constructed that when the detachable member is withdrawn the aerial and earth wires are brought into direct contact within it. As shown in Fig. 1, the receiving-set 9 is provided with socket 7 and plug 8 co-operating with a plug 4 and socket 5 mounted in a detachable case 3 and connected by leads 1, 2 to the aerial and earth wires. When the case 3 is detached from the set, the aerial is earthed by the aotion of a spring tilting the socket 5 to make contact with the plug 4. When, however, the plugs and sockets are in operative engagement, the socket 5 moves into a position parallel with the plug 4, and the aerial and earth wires make independent connection to the set. In a modification shown in Fig. 3, the, socket 5 is fixed, and the aerial is earthed by a shoulder 12 on a spring plunger. When the plugs are inserted, the plunger is pushed back and the aerial to earth connection is broken.
