Abstract

1,180,816. Two part couplings. UNILEVER Ltd. 24 Sept., 1968 [26 Sept., 1967]. No. 43653/67. Heading H2E. An electrical socket outlet comprises a cover plate 22 pivotally mounted on an axis perpendicular to the plane of the front surface of the socket outlet and biased to the closed position to cover the outlet sockets. Two annular grooves encircling the outlet sockets 3 receive annular sealing rings 9, 10, and an annular groove 11 is formed concentric with and of a diameter intermediate the other two grooves, to give protection against the ingress of liquids. The cover plate is formed by a thin metal plate e.g. 1 or 2 mm. thick, which is urged into sealing engagement with the rings 9, 10 by the action of a helical spring (20, Fig. 2, not shown) the cover being shaped at 29 to engage a wedge shaped portion on a stop pin having an enlarged head 25, while the trailing edge (28) of the plate is shaped to slightly overlap the antennae and ring 10 when the plate is pivoted towards the open position. As a plug is withdrawn, the cover plate 22 will take up the position shown whereby the plate engages an . earth pin which is being withdrawn from the outlet socket 3a, and the cover plate is thus maintained in this position by the earth pin until the plug has been fully withdrawn.
