Abstract
525,901. Two-part couplings. TELEPHONE MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., and TAYLOR, G. E. March 2, 1939, No. 6903. [Class 38 (i)] A shutter covering the socket contacts is moved by the action of the plug member thereon only if all the plug contacts are properly inserted. The shutter comprises a block 8 having inclined surfaces 9, 10 that are acted upon by the current carrying pins to slide the block against the action of restoring springs 11. Behind the block is a second shutter 13 having holes 5a, 6a corresponding to the plug spacing and resiliently clipped to the block 8 by a bent spring 14 engaging a hole 16 in the shutter. Movement of the block 8 is thus communicated to the shutter 13 and brings the blank part of the shutter over the live sockets unless the earthing pin is inserted in the hole 6a to hold the shutter 13 still so that the holes 5a expose the live sockets. In a modification, two separate shutters cover the live sockets and are moved by the current-carrying pins, but if the earthing pin is not inserted the shutters engage stops before they are fully opened. If the earthing pin is inserted it engages oblique edges on the shutters and guides them clear of the stops.
