Abstract

434,807. Plug couplings. SCHOLES & CO., Ltd., G. H., SCHOLES, G. H., and PEARCE, F. J., Wylex Works, Wythenshawe, Manchester. March 2, 1934, No. 6665. [Class 38 (i)] A sliding shutter 12 for covering the contacts of a socket fitting, is operated by one or more of the contacts of the plug-member in a single operation against spring action to uncover the socket contacts. The shutter 12 is of T-shape and slides in guides 11 on a disc 9 secured within the cover 6 of the socket fitting. The side portions of the shutter close apertures 7 in the cover 6 and 7<a> in the disc 9, and a hole 17 in the shutter adapted to receive the earthing pin of the plug member is accessible through an elongated opening 8 in the cover 6, so that the earthing pin can be used to move the shutter 12 downward against the tension of the spring 14. This opens the holes 7 into which the currentcarrying pins are guided by grooves 18. The shutter may be located on the front of the cover 6.
