691,622. Securing pipes to tanks. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Nov. 21, 1951 [Nov. 22, 1950; Nov. 22, 1950], Nos. 28536/50 and 28537/50. Class 99 (i) [Also in Group XXIX] A pipe, gauge, inspection cover, or other fitting is secured in an opening in a tank made of a flexible material such as rubber by providing the opening with a thickened rim or bead 2, compressing the rim between the fitting and a clamping member 6, and substantially enclosing the rim by the parts which compress it. An elbow 3 is secured bv a spider 6 and bolt 11, the bead being received in a channel 5 of the elbow flange 4. An inspection cover 14, Fig. 2 (28536/50), is secured by a clamping ring 13 and studs 15, the bead 17 being enclosed in angular recesses formed by flanges on the ring and cover. A cover 19, Fig. 3 (28536/50), is secured by studs 23 passing through holes in a rounded bead 22 received in a complementary recess in the ring 21. Adjacent tanks Fig. 4 (not shown), are connected by a short tubular member extending through the openings, clamping rings within the tanks, and bolts passing through the wall of the tube. The beaded rims are enclosed by flanges on the tube and rings. A manhole of the type comprising a long narrow slit is closed by a flat bar 5, Fig. 2 (28537/50), and a bar 4 having flanges 9 enclosing the beads 3. A rib 8 extends into the slit.
