A packing for a spigot and socket pipe joint comprises a conical rubber body 6 having inner and outer flanges 7 and 12. The flanges 12 have circumferential ribs 12a. Detent flanges 5 and 14 are provided for engaging the rims of the spigot and socket respectively, the flange 5 having circumferential ribs 11.
