Abstract

690,882. Direct injection engines; fuel admission devices. KANIUT. P. J., and WITZKY, J. E. Sept. 12, 1950 [Sept. 13, 1949], No. 22434/50. Class 7 (iii). Fuel is drawn into a chamber 74 in an injector past a suction operated valve 58 during the suction stroke and during the compressor stroke when the end 46 of the injector enters an opening 36 of a precombustion chamber the flow of air from the main chamber to the precombustion chamber draws the fuel from the chamber 74 through orifices 50. When the pressure in the precombus/ tion chamber rises the gases flow back into the main chamber and draw fuel through the orifices 50. into the main chamber. By turning a lever 56 a barrel 42 of the injector may be raised or lowered to vary the timing of the injection, and simultaneously the relationship of a needle valve 90 to a valve seat 84 is varied thus regulating the fuel flow. It is stated that the orifices 50 are small so that fuel is not drawn from the chamber 74 during the suction stroke.
