Abstract

689,097. Cutting blocks from an extruded rod of ice-cream &c. ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH), Ltd. Oct. 19, 1950 [Oct. 25, 1949], No. 27373/49. Class 87 (ii). [Also in Group XXX] A rod 11 of ice-cream is extruded onto a conveyer 12, and the speed of the conveyer is kept the same as the speed of extrusion of the rod by a rotary member 16 which engages the rod and actuates a servo-mechanism 15, the output of which is connected to a shaft 24 driving the conveyer. The rod is cut into blocks 32 by a knife 31. The knife is reciprocated vertically by an eccentric 37 driven from the shaft 24, and is moved horizontally at the same speed as the rod, during cutting, by an eccentric 43 driven from the shaft 24. The knife is thus driven synchronously with the conveyer, so that equal lengths are cut from the rod. The blocks 32 fall onto a delivery conveyer 46, having spaced pushing elements 47, which is driven from the shaft 24 at such a speed that it moves through a distance equal to the spacing of the elements 47, during a cutting cycle. The knife may also be of the rotary type or in the form of a wire. The delivery conveyer may comprise a series of spaced pockets each adapted to receive a block. The rod or the cut blocks may be passed through a freezing chamber 28. According to the Provisional Specification the cut blocks may be transferred to a pocket of the delivery conveyer by a member which lifts the block clear of its suporting surface.
