Abstract

1323571 Shearing K HYDE 16 June 1971 [15 April 1970] 17977/70 Heading B3W Wires are fed by rollers 11, 12 to a cutter (not shown) in a housing 18, the rollers and/or the cutter being driven at variable speed so that the wires can be cut to any desired length. The cutter preferably comprises a plurality of blades radiating from a rotor which has its rotary axis normal to the roller axis and offset from the centre of the lengths of the rollers. Preferably the roller drive speed is variable, by variable speed motor 16, and the cutter speed is constant so that a constant number of cut lengths are delivered per unit of time from a shoot 22. The wires are guided to the rollers through apertures 21 of a plate 20. The roller spacing can be varied by moving the upper roller in the frame 14 through the screw 15. A second guide plate between the rollers and the cutter, as close as possible to the cutter, is interchangeable so that plates having apertures forming a close sliding fit with the wires can be used.
