Abstract

1374014 Cutting apparatus MARSHALL & WILLIAMS CO 13 Sept 1972 [24 Nov 1971] 42413/72 Heading B4B An apparatus for slitting plastics sheeting into narrow strips comprises a pair of shafts 29, 36 each fitted with cutting discs 40 separated by spacers 41 and a plurality of guide fingers 63 aligned with each of the spacers for guiding the sheeting between the cutting discs. The cutting discs 40 and spacers 41 are held on the shafts 29, 36 by means of a collar 52, Fig. 8, having jack screw 57 therein for compressing the discs and spacers together. The shaft 29 is rotatably mounted in side plates 16, 17 mounted on a base-plate 15. The shaft 36 is mounted in bearings 33, 33A which are eccentrically mounted in the side plates so that by movement of handles 61 secured to the bearings the cutting discs 40 on the shaft 36 can be brought into and out of engagement with the cutting discs in the shaft 29. The guide fingers 63 are suspended from rods 20, 23 adjustably mounted via slots 18, 19 in the side plates. The plastics sheeting is fed from a roll (92), Fig. 10 (not shown), over rollers 70, 71, Fig. 2, to a take-up roll 93, the sheeting passing vertically through the cutting discs. The guide fingers prevent the narrow strips of plastics material from wrapping around the cutting discs.
