Abstract

1463680 Granulating GUNTHER PAPENMEIER KG MASCHINEN-UND APPARATEBAU 8 Oct 1974 [10 Oct 1973 1 Feb 1974] 43527/74 Heading B5A Material is compacted and granulated in the nip between two relatively rotating members while being moved axially of the members to outlet apertures the material being forced through the apertures and divided into granules. One or both of a pair of rollers 26, 27, Fig. 2, are provided with helices 28, 29 which cause the material to move towards one or both ends of the rollers (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) or towards the middle, as shown, where it is forced through apertures 30, cut by a knife 31 and removed through a space 32 by compressed air or suction. The rollers may be smooth and have inclined axes which causes the material to move to one end (Fig. 5, not shown). Three rollers may be used to form two nips, the material moving in opposite directions but by a different amount in each nip. Alternatively, Fig. 1, the members may be a smooth driven roller 14 inside a drum 13 loosely mounted loosely on rollers 12 and having a helix 17 leading to outlet apertures 19 and a knife 21. Two independently driven rollers 64, 65, Fig. 6, having opposite helices may operate within a drum 61 mounted on driven rollers 70. Material is fed in through an aperture 72 in an end of the drum and forms a layer inside the drum. The material is forced towards the outlet openings 75 and a knife 76 by roller 65 and to a lesser extent in the opposite direction by roller 64 to knead the material.
