[Also in Division F2] A device in which cellulose plugs F are removed from pipettes 13 by blowing pressure air into them from a nozzle 146 (Fig. 4), comprises a conveyer 12 having a wide belt 58 of reinforced plastic material or of stainless steel across which are grooves 67 between positioning stops 64 alternating with transverse ribs 66 to receive the pipettes. The belt travels from right to left (as seen in Fig. 2) over grooved rollers 42, 43, one of which, 43, is driven from an electric motor 104 through a shaft 103 and gears 28 which also drive two pairs of contrarotating and mutually contacting flexibletyred wheels 118, 122 and 119, 123 which receive the pipettes from the conveyer belt at 33 into their nip and pass them through the blowing station at 13a afterwards dropping them into a receptacle 18. Stops at 136 and 137 obstruct any pipette which is not properly down in its groove 67 and a wedge 143 (shown in part in Fig. 4) positions the end of the pipette relatively to the tip 147 of the blower nozzle 146. The rollers 42 and 43 are journalled in side plates 38 and 39 in which cylindrical adjustment blocks 53, 54 bear on the stubshafts 44, 44a of the roller 42 to move them along horizontal slots 46, 47 to adjust the tightness of the belt 58. The plates 38 and 39 have pins 74 and 75 which are supported in notches 77 and 78 opening inwardly, rearwardly and upwardly in posts 68 and 69 projecting from the sides 21 and 39 of the main frame 12. The stub shaft bearings 51 and 52 of the roller 43 are supported in similar notches opening forwardly in other posts 72 and 73 on the frame sides and the drive 84 to the stubshaft 48a can be readily disconnected (Fig. 11, not shown) so that the belt with its rollers and side plates can be lifted out of the frame.
