Abstract

1,267,850. Partition assembly machine. ANDAX PTY. Ltd. 24 Dec., 1969 [8 Jan., 1969], No. 62886/69. Heading B5D. A machine for assembling longitudinal and cross-members 2 and 3 of a partition comprises a conveyer 9 having stops 11 for sequentially advancing the longitudinal members between parallel pairs of upstanding guide-plates 12 to an assembly station, a conveyer 19 supporting a stack of cross-members above the conveyer 9 and urging them against a suction-plate 28, and a pair of continuously driven rollers 17 for moving successive cross-members into engagement with the longitudinal members after each crossmember has been pushed between the nip of the rollers by a pneumatic reciprocal pusher 24. The partition members may be slotted as shown or unslotted. Each pair of guide plates are provided with a leaf-spring 14 and opposed projection 15 forming a frictional restraint on the passing longitudinal partition member to urge the latter against the respective stop 11. The pusher is operated by a double-acting pneumatic piston/cylinder unit 26, 27, which is automatically actuated when each of a series of micro-switches 32 is sequentially actuated by the respective conveyer stop 11, the number and spacing of the micro-switches corresponding to the number of cross-members to be assembled in one partition. To accommodate partition size variation, each switch is adjustably-mounted on a slider bar 36, which itself is slidablyadjustable along the conveyer 9. In a modification, one roller 17 may be replaced by a flat plate, and in a further modification, the or each roller may be replaced by an endless belt.
