Abstract

1342354 Comminuting apparatus IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [19 May 1970] 24210/70 Heading B2A [Also in Division B5] Sheet material, e.g. wood or plastics, is diced by an apparatus comprising a rotor formed from a plurality of discs, 11, 12, Fig. 1, mounted on a rotor shaft 14 each disc having one or more peripherally-mounted cutting teeth 16, 17, the edges of the teeth cooperating with a fixed knife 15 which is profiled to cut the disc. The knife 15 has a notched edged three sides of each notch 18 engage with teeth 16 while a front edge 19 of the knife 15 engages teeth 17. In a modification the teeth 17 are wider than the edge portions 19, Fig. 2 (not shown). Sheet material is fed from a supporting table by rollers 21, Fig. 3. The rollers 21 and shaft 14 are coupled so that the same size product is produced irrespective of machine feed rate. The knife 15 may be of mild steel or brass and the teeth 16, 17 may be tipped with tungsten carbide.
