Abstract

654,907. Machines for cutting ice-cream into slices preparatory to packing. ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH), Ltd. Oct. 21, 1948, No. 27324. [Class 87 (ii)] Two strips of ice-cream 11 are carried in a support 12 having rods 13. The lower ends of the strips are normally supported by a movable platform 14, see Fig. 6 (not shown). To cut slices from the strips, the platform is lowered a distance equal to the desired thickness of the slices, by means of a cam 24, and knives 31 are moved towards each other, by means of a cam 46, to cut through the strips. The platform is then lowered with the cut slices to the position shown, while the strips of ice-cream are supported by the knives 31. A forked transfer member 63 then moves under the severed slices, lifts them, and moves them forward to a position above the pockets 62 of a conveyer. The member 63 then dips,' to ower the slices on to the pockets. The member is raised and lowered by pivoting it about a shaft 66 by means of a cam 77. The member is moved horizontally by means of a rack 67 and a pinion 68 driven through a gear 69 by a cam 73. The platform 14 and pockets 62 are forked for the passage of the member 63. According to the Provisional Specification the knives may be reciprocated in a direction transverse to that of their cutting movement, and they may have serrated edges.
