Abstract

A sintered non-consumable electrode for fusion welding, discharge lamps, cold cathode rectifiers and arc furnaces consists of 100 parts by weight of tungsten, 5-45 parts of thoria and 1/2 -5 parts of either tantalum, vanadium or niobium. The preferred composition is 100 parts by weight of tungsten, 15 parts of thoria, and 3 parts tantalum. Tantalum hydride, carbonate or oxide may be used to provide the tantalum.
