Abstract
660,401. Discharge apparatus. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. April 5, 1949 [May 22, 1948], No. 9268/49. Class 39 (i). A vapour discharge device has a substantially rectangular anode suspended so that it is closely spaced from the side walls of a substantially rectangular metallic container to provide a high ratio of cooling surface to crosssectional area. The rectangular metal container 2 has arched side walls, made from two stampings to give two longitudinal seams or from one forged plate to give one seam, and is closed by forgings or stampings 4, 5 welded thereto. The rectangular anode is tapered at 8. Ignitor 16, keep-alive electrode 17 and an elongated baffle 18 are provided. Control or deionizing grids may also be fitted, and the mercury pool contains an insulating ring 15.
