Abstract
407,315. Discharge rectifiers. JACKSON, L. MELLERSH-, 28, Southampton Buildings, Chancery Lane, London.-(Siemens- Schuckertwerke Akt.-Ges..; Siemensstadt, Berlin.) July 28, 1932, No. 21323. [Class 39 (i).] In a metallic-vapour or rare-gas arc rectifier, one or more auxiliary anodes are arranged within the discharge path to each anode and between the controlling electrodes and the cathode so that the discharge takes place in a stepwise manner from the cathode to the auxiliary anode and thence to the main anode. Anodes 4, 5, Fig. 1, controlling sleeves 10, 11 and uncontrolled grids 12, 13 are provided in a glass rectifier having a mercury cathode. Auxiliary anodes 6-9 are connected to the sleeves through resistances 14-17 and to the secondary of the supply transformer through a two-way switch 18. In a modification, a rectifier provided with an iron container has the anode 22, control grid 23, uncontrolled grids 26, 27 and auxiliary anodes 24, 25 arranged in the sleeve 21. A condenser 30 serves to displace the phase of the potential on the auxiliary anode 24. Specification 7892/05, [Class 39], is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 259,234, [Class 39 (i)].
