Abstract

417,676. Discharge apparatus. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, ET CIE, Baden, Switzerland. April 13, 1933, No. 11081. Convention date, April 14, 1932. [Class 39 (i).] Failure of the blocking action of the grid at the instant of switching on the anode voltage on a mercury vapour valve 1 is prevented by providing the switch 9, for applying the anode voltage, with a preliminary contact which connects the source of supply 5 to the anode through a resistance 10. The valve 1 is shown operating as a switch controlling supply to a load 6, a parallel valve 15 being also shown. Additional means may be provided, such as a condenser 12 connected between the grid and cathode of the valve 1, a resistance 14 shunting the source of supply 5, an inductance 11, which may be shunted by a resistance 13, in series with the supply, for preventing transient or excess voltages from depriving the grid of its blocking action.
