Abstract

1,085,714. Arc electrodes. UNION CARBIDE CORPORATION. Sept. 10, 1964 [Sept. 20, 1963], No. 21717/67. Divided out of 1,085,713. Heading H1X. Solar radiation is simulated for prolonged periods by an arc between a carbon electrode, which may contain a flame material, and a non-consumable electrode, the latter being constituted by a homogeneous member formed of a refractory metal incorporating a more highly electron emissive material. The non-consumable electrode may consist of tungsten, molybdenum, or tantalum, incorporating up to about 10% by weight of one or more of the oxides of thorium, yttrium, rubidium, gadolinium, ytterbium, calcium, cerium, barium, zirconium, caesium, lithium, lanthanum, strontium, and potassium.
