Abstract
1307034 Discharge apparatus COMPAGNIE DES LAMPES AS 29 April 1971 [22 May 1970 7 April 1971] 12266/71 Heading H1D An electrode for a discharge lamp, comprises a tungsten rod 1 having secured at one end a coil 2 of tungsten wire, and a thorium-emitting disc 7 above the said end of the rod. A second disc 8 can contain a getter material such as titanium or any metal in the same group. The discs 7, 8 are held closely together by further coils 4, 5, 6 and welds 9, 10. A typical disc 7 is made by mixing 45 mg of tungsten, 5mg. thorium oxide and 0À5 mg. of silicon, the mixture being compressed at about 15 to 20tons/sq.cm., and subsequently heated in argon at about 1500 C. A titanium-containing disc is similarly made with 10-50% titanium mixed with tungsten.
