Abstract
974,233. Discharge apparatus. S.A.E.S. S.p.A. May 11, 1961 [Dec. 29, 1960], No. 17215/61. Heading H1D. An electric discharge device has an electrode structure including a cathode and a heater filament enclosed in an evacuated envelope, wherein part of the structure or envelope outside the cathode has a recess formed therein to form a seating for a tablet or other solid mass of non- vaporizable getter material disposed in said recess so as to be activated by heat radiation upon energization of the filament. The getter material P, Fig. 2, may be provided in a recess formed in the envelope above the filament. Alternatively, Fig. 5, e.g. in a cathode-ray tube, the getter material G may be contained in an annular recess surrounding the cathode formed in part of the electrode structure, a spacing ring A being provided between the getter material and the cathode.
