685,455. Centrifugal pumps. DOWLING, D. R., Sept. 10, 1949 [Sept. 13, 1948], No. 23448/49. Class 110(i) A bearing for the impeller shaft of a centrifugal pump is located within the inlet orifice of the pump and is lubricated by the liquid drawn in through the inlet orifice. The bearings 14 and 15 of a centrifugal pump 10 are of hard rubber, synthetic resin or other material capable of being lubricated by water, and are each formed with longitudinal or helical lubricating grooves 17. Bearing 14 is supported within the inlet orifice 11 by a cylindrical hub 19 and spider arms 20, so that water is drawn in through the grooves 17. Water from the pump periphery passes by way of a pipe 25 and an annular space 23 to the grooves 17 of bearing 15..
