Abstract
1,234,391. Centrifugal pumps. A. P.V. Co. Ltd. July 19, 1968 [May 9, 1967], No.21398/67. Heading F1C. [Also in Division F2] A centrifugal pump has an impeller 11 integrally formed with a hollow driving-shaft 13 connected externally of impeller chamber 9 to a transmission shaft 23 via a dog coupling 25, 26 arranged to allow the shaft 13 to move axially of the shaft 23. A compression spring 33 applies axial sealing pressure directly to a sealing ring 30 and through the axially-movable shaft 13 to a sealing ring 27. A ring 32 applies peripheral sealing around the shaft 13. The rings 27, 30 and an associated bush 28 may be of synthetic plastics or a natural or synthetic rubber compound. The impeller has six vanes 12 each with a radial pumping bore 17 therethrough. The liquid is delivered through the bores 17 into the chamber 9 by centrifugal force and is discharged from the chamber 9 through outlet 5 by a combination of the centrifugal force and the effect of the rotating vanes 12. The inlet 4 is vacuum brazed to casing portion 3.
