Description

SPECIFICATION Slide ring seal The present invention concerns a slide ring seal with a slide ring rotating with the shaft, this slide ring being provided with sealing faces on both sides, against which faces abut stationary sealing rings, on which an axial sealing force acts, this sealing force acting only on one of the two sealing rings and through this on the slide ring and on the opposite sealing ring.
Seals of this kind are needed for instance on submerged pumps having three different volumes: that of the liquid which is being pumped, the oil volume and the air volume of the motor. These volumes must be sealed against each other at the shaft passing through. The slide ring rotating with the shaft and the sealing rings on both sides thereof have been loaded with springs, each of its own, to press against the slide ring.
The object of this invention is to provide a new and simple type of slide ring seal. The slide ring seal of the invention is characterized in that the ring in the middle is axially movable on the shaft.
Since the slide ring is axially movable, the spring force acts on both sealing faces of the slide ring. It is essential in the invention that the spring or springs have been disposed on only one side of the seal, that is, there is only one spring or group of springs (if small springs are used) for the three rings. By the aid of the invention a simpler design solution is achieved, implying saving in costs and easier servicing.
The invention is described in the following with the aid of an example and with reference to the drawing attached, presenting a slide ring seal according to the invention, axially sectioned.
The slide ring seal comprises a slide ring 2 rotating with the shaft 1 and provided on both sides with sealing faces 3, 4, against which abut stationary sealing rings 5, 6. The slide ring 2 is axially movable on the shaft 1, and the sealing spring force of the slide ring seal acts only on one of the two sealing rings, 6. The spring force has been produced by means of a helical spring 7 wound around the shaft 1, the retainer pins 8, 9 provided on the ends of this spring preventing the sealing ring 6 from rotating with the slide ring 2.
The other sealing ring 5 is secured against rotation by a tongue 10 in an opposing recess 12 in the housing 1 The slide ring 2 is secured with the pin 13 to rotate positively together with the shaft 1.
The slide ring seal seals the liquid volume 14 against the oil volume 1 5 and the oil volume 1 5 against the air volume 1 6. By reason of its simplicity, the seal is advantageous and easy to service.
It is obvious to a person skiiled in the art that different embodiments of the invention may vary within the scope of the claims stated below.
1. A slide ring seal with a slide ring (2) rotating with the shaft (1), provided on both sides with sealing faces (3, 4), against which abut stationary sealing rings (5, 6) acted upon by an axial sealing spring force (7), which acts only on one of the two sealing rings (6) and through this on the slide ring and on the opposite sealing ring (5), characterized in that the ring in the middle (2) is axially movable on the shaft (1).
2. A slide ring seal substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
