Abstract
1,145,895. Centrifugal pumps. SAMUEL PEGG & SON Ltd. Aug. 15, 1967 [June 18, 1966], No. 27306/66. Heading F1C. A high-pressure centrifugal pump has a number of scoops 17, Fig. 3, arranged around the periphery of the impeller 7, Figs. 2 and 3, with their open ends facing in the direction of rotation. The scoops accelerate the liquid discharged from the flow passages 15 to thereby increase the pump delivery pressure. The cross-sectional area of a tangential discharge duct (6), Fig. 1 (not shown), increases in the direction of flow. A radial inlet 5 is arranged at one or both sides of the pump casing. The impeller flow passages may be formed by a number of bores in a substantially solid impeller, or between a number of vanes in a substantially hollow impeller. High-pressure liquid leaking past seal 9 is re-directed into the main flow by an annulus 18. Access to the interior of the casing is facilitated by a removable cover 2.
