Abstract

1380250 Centrifugal pumps E J ASK 29 Dec 1971 [6 Jan 1971] 60441/71 Heading F1C In a centrifugal pump comprising an impeller 4 mounted in a housing having an axial inlet 1 and tangential outlet 5, the outer ends of the impeller blades move along the inner surface of the peripheral wall of the housing except at the outlet opening 3 and a side channel 6 formed in at least one axial end-wall of the housing extends around the end-wall adjacent the outlet opening and into the outlet 5. The channel 6 has a gradually increasing cross-sectional area in the direction of flow. The channels 6 communicate via the impeller with the inlet and are said to be effective in priming the pump. The pump may have more than one outlet.
