Abstract

257,111. Hathorn, Davey, & Co., Ltd., and Lupton, H. R. Sept. 25, 1925. Helico-centrifugal apparatus. - A pump having both centrifugal and screw effects has an impeller constructed to impart to the liquid an axial component equal to the radial component. The lower portion 1 of the casing constitutes the flared inlet to the impeller, the middle portion 2 carries the guide vanes 7, and the upper portion 3 constitutes the delivery chamber and outlet. There are three inclined impeller blades 10 tapering upwardly and outwardly, and their outer edges terminate on a conical surface. The curved guide blades 7 taper downwardly, the angle of the curve to the horizontal being less at the hub than at the rim. The shaft rotates in bearings 5 carried by the casing section 3 and by the boss 6 of the guide blades. The water passages are made large to render the pump unchokeable.
