725,909. Centrifugal pumps. HENSCHEL & SOHN GES. Sept. 8, 1953, No. 24822/53. Class 110 (1). In a centrifugal pump for hot and boiling liquids at a low supply head, the impeller hub i is of whorled or verticillate form so as to impart a rotation to the liquid entering the impeller h. This has the effect of mixing any entrained gas with the liquid to form small bubbles which are carried away by the liquid, thus preventing the formation of a gas core near the hub. The diameter D<SP>2</SP> of the inlet edges of the impeller blades is greater than the diameter D<SP>1</SP> of the inlet openings of the pump housing a, b. A prerotation of the liquid occurs in the annular space between these two differing diameters, producing an increase in the static pressure at the inlet edges of the blades. The pump housing a, b is contained in an outer casing c having a cover-plate d and provided with an inlet g and outlet k. The pump may be of the single-flow type.
