Abstract
476,373. Centrifugal pumps; stuffing- boxes. MACKENSEN, MASCHINENFABRIK UND EISENGIESSEREI GES., A. W., and BUNGARTZ, P. June 4, 1937, No. 15573. [Classes 110 (i) and 122 (v)] A centrifugal pump with impeller shaft a capable of axial movement has a shaft sleeve g coned to engage a coned packing h held in a stuffing-box in the pump casing, the sleeve being withdrawn from the packing when the pump is working. The impeller has supplementary passages f, the radial clearance d at the inlet to the main passages e being greater than the clearance b to the passages f. Closed impellers may have auxiliary blades c on the suction side. The sleeve g has a flange i pressed against a flange k on the casing when the pump is idle. The shaft is mounted in roller bearings m with inner rings l fixed to the shaft and capable of axial movement with respect to the rings of rollers. A spring n acts between a ball bearing p mounted on the shaft and a flanged ring n<1> screwed into shaft housing o which is screwed into the end cap o<1> for adjustment of the axial movement.
