Abstract

199,250. Anglo-Persian Oil Co., Ltd., and Taylor, J. June 15, 1922. Leakage-preventing devices.-To prevent leakage from centrifugal pumps, more particularly pumps used for light oils, a clearance space i opening into the suction chamber is provided between the impeller and the bearing. The parts are constructed so that this space i is on a plane closer to the plane of the delivery outlets of the impeller than the clearance space a between the impeller and the pump casing. The hub m of the impeller has an annular extension l which projects into a recess in the end of the gland o. This gland is mounted in a coned seating p in the casing d and is firmly held by means of the nut s. Metallic packing rings u are arranged between the gland and the impeller shaft and are separated from each other by rings w of leather or like material: the pressure upon the rings may be adjusted by means of the nut z. By these means the liquid tending to escape between the impeller and the bearing is forced to flow in the direction imposed by the suction of the impeller.
