Abstract
117,558. Gull, A. E. Nov. 16, 1917. Disk-supported-blade pumps; balancing moving parts; leakage-preventing devices.-The disk D on the suction side of the impeller is extended beyond the blades G and on its outside surface has an annular recess A divided by radial ribs at a number of divisions. The liquid in these recesses exerts an end pressure on the impeller which is raised by the axial movement of the impeller altering the clearance spaces between the impeller and the casing. A flow of liquid outwards is also set up which prevents inward flow from the discharge to the suction. The invention is applicable to single and double inlet pumps.
