Fixed-abutment type; balancing moving parts; packing vanes.-In a rotary pump or engine of the kind having outwardly-sliding vanes m carried by a drum b which is eccentrically mounted in a casing a, friction due to the centrifugal thrust of the vanes on the casing is reduced by mounting rotary end disks d concentrically in the casing and providing them at their outer ends with flanges k engaging the corners of the vanes m. The disks d may be kept up against the drum b by balls o or a thrust collar p, or by fluid-pressure, or by tongues on the vanes engaging grooves in the flanges k. The tips of the vanes m may carry rollers r or grooved flanges m<3>.
