Abstract

9613. Green, T. W. April 23. Movable-abutment type; packing drums.-The impellers of a rotary blower of the Roots'-blower type are built up of a number of axially-connected sections, each comprising a pair of duplicate parts secured to the shaft by mutually overlapping sections. The wing portions 11, 12 on the same side of an impeller, Figs. 1 and 3, are connected by a section 24, 23, 26 which embraces three sides of a shaft 22 having a square section. The opposite wing portions 13, 14 are similarly connected by a duplicate portion embracing three sides of the shaft and registering with the first portion as shown. The impeller halves are provided with suitable flanges by which they are connected to each other and to other axial sections of the same impeller. In a modification, Figs. 5 and 7, the impeller halves are each provided with integral ribs 35, 36 partly enclosing the shaft Each rib 35, 36 covers the shaft to a greater extent throughout one half of the section length than throughout the other half, and registers with similarly-formed ribs on the other impeller half. the various ribs being bolted as shown. The periphery and sides of the impeller may be packed by seals 44, 52 pressed outwards by the pressure fluid admitted behind them by means of a passage 48.
