Abstract

6686. Green, T. W. March 24, 1911, [Convention date]. Movable - abutment type; packing drums. vanes, etc.; adjusting parts for wear.-The impellers of rotary pumps of the Roots'-blower type are provided with plane lock portions formed by special packing-members, which may be adjusted for wear &c. The tips of the impellers 17, 19, Fig. 1, are recessed to hold packing-pieces 21, which are forced against the casing 3 by the fluid on the pressure side entering passages 22 formad for that purpose. Each impeller is fitted with four packing members, two 23, 23<1> being in one plane, and two 23, 23<3> in another plane at right-angles to the first, both planes being radial to the axis of the impeller. These packing - members may comprise strips 37 adjusted by end wedges 39, Figs 5 and 6, and screws 40; stops 44 being provided to limit the outward movement. In Fig. 9 is shown a modified form of packing strip 37<1> adjustable by screws 51. A geometrical method of obtaining the contour of the impeller is described.
